The Vulcan Foundry company magazine From the foundry's post war heyday we have from Volume 1 Number 1 from 1948 through to Volume 5 Number 12 1962 the last issue. From the days when most people lived and worked in the same town and television hadn't impacted on peoples lives these magazines are a compact piece of social history. The company magazine at this time was published by and for the people who worked there, rather than portraying a corporate image and was much richer for it. Social activities and announcements take up at least 75% of the magazines content with the remainder dedicated to the companies latest products, orders and technical achievements. The foundry employees would actually queue up and pay for the magazine with their own hard earned cash as soon as it was issued, how many people read the trash published by modern companies let alone pay for the privilege. The
magazine was dropped by English Electric in 1963 as it was deemed surplus to
requirements when they had their own corporate one.
We have a few of these but they are quite frankly a very disappointing
publication with little or no social interest with regard to the Vulcan so we
are not including them on the site at present.
