New Zealand Railways Vulcan Frichs Railmotor 56 (works number 4851) finish built in 1939 from an order placed in 1938 one of four 70 year old survivors from the nine out of the original of ten that made it to New Zealand intermittently between July 1940 and February 1942 during the height of the Battle of the Atlantic during WW2 with only one being lost at sea on the SS Cumberland which was Torpedoed and sank 12 miles North of Malin Head on 25th August 1940.

Paul loco crews for the Taieri Gorge Railway a tourist railway operating from Dunedin which runs on the mainline and our private branchline,
(see http://www.taieri.co.nz ) where they have been graced by two historic Vulcan products during their 2009 heritage festival.
